Side Trip - Tucson - Tombstone - Tubac - Bisbee

Tucson Gem and Bead show is a colossal affair, huge venues all over town and many small tents popping up everywhere.  We spent the day looking at all kinds of gems and beads.  Unfortunately it rained all day.  Shuttles take you from one venue to the other.

These deer greeted us just outside the Tombstone hotel's hospitality area.  They came in and nibbled on the grass just outside the large windows of the dining area.  Met a couple of guys from Australia escaping the hot summer and taking a tour of Arizona and California.  They were hotrod fanatics so they were going from car show to car show.

Tombstone was fun, they do the old west routine pretty well.  However there was a guy all dressed up in a complete cowboy outfit with a sherifs badge.  I walked up to him on the boardwalk and told him there wasn't room enough in this town for the both of us.  He just said . OK.  It was really anticlimactic.  Got on the first stage outside of town......

Bisbee is one of my favorite places, it is the location of many of the mystery novels I've enjoyed written by J.A. Jance.  She wrote some from a Seattle perspective as well and it was always nice to visualize the area as I was reading.

Bisbee was a copper mining town, and has both open pit and tunneled mining operations.  The town and all homes are perched up on the hillsides, with winding narrow streets and deep culverts to divert rain water.  It's an arts style community now and has many antique, and art gallery shops.

Tubac is a Southwestern arts community that we have visited before.  The place has grown since we last visited and the selection goes on and on.

  1. I'm envious of the warm weather and the really interesting side trips. A gigantic bead show? Not so much! I'll bet you're really missing our really cold weather, snow, and icy streets right now.

    1. It's not as warm as it should be, but by afternoon I can sit out in a deck chair in short sleeves.

We aren't missing the weather as so many people have shared it with us on Facebook.
